Offsite backups for pbs

I see a lot of people talking about, wanted to send their backups to google drive or one drive.
And then a lot of responses say how tricky this is, how it does not work well, etc.

I think in my case, I want to ask a similar question, but open it up a bit.

If I ran pbs on a full bare metal machine, with the drive space using zfs.
What options do i now have to duplicate this backed up data.

Be it another machine in the rack, or some off site service, i want to know about it.

Is there anyone willing to give examples of things they have done to do this kind of thing.

This is discussed on a regular base. What keywords did you try for the forum search? Searching for pbs offsite backup should give you some results.
One of the more recent threads with my own hot takes on this topic: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/backup-pbs-to-cloud-provider-with-incremental-chunks.157965/

Basically it turns down to using a provider of proxmox backup server as a service (e.G. Tuxis.NL), setting up a offsite PBS in a dedicated or virtual cloud server (alternatively you can use a small pc which you put at the place of a trusted friend or family member) or using Proxmox VEs native vzdump function to a local storage and uploading to a cloud storage afterwards.

Since this question is asked quite a lot I wonder whether we could have a small subsection in the forums for curated articles on them? Or maybe inside the wiki?

Good morning

I did see that link.
But the guy asked about using his onedrive as the storage point.
I also saw your responses and took that information into account.

I suppose the thing I'm checking is, what if the question was simply offsite. not trying to dump it to specific locations, just want it offsite.
Has anyone used other software that has not been mentioned before.
What about other options other than "google drive or one drive"

I'm just trying to collect as much information about this open ended question.
As for what you stated on the other forum post, i have taken note of it and contemplating it.

Also, a wiki of options would be useful.

the supported options are:
- tape using the builtin tape feature
- another PBS instance (yours or by a service provider) using the built-in sync feature (since PBS 3.3 there's also push support in addition to pull)
- an external hard disk/.. using a removable datastore (since PBS 3.3)

not supported:
- slow, WAN-backed network storages (you might get some of them to "work", but performance will be very bad)
- object storages (tracked here: https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2943)
