Hello, everyone,

I have 4 PVE servers in my homalab that back up daily to PBS.
The backups are saved on a 2 TB hard disk.

In order to also have offsite bakups, I decided to use Borgmatic together with the Storage Box from the provider Hetzner.

Borgmatic is configured to back up the 4 ‘Name Space (NS)’ in a directory on the HDD.

The configuration seems to be correct, but Borgmatic's backup finishes in a few seconds and without errors.
As if not all files are backed up.

Do you know of any particular parameter to use with borg?

Thank you all for your help.

Please note that the snapshot folders only contain the index files, not the actual chunk files themself, so you need to actually sync the full datastore. For a more detailed description of the datastores organization, please see https://pbs.proxmox.com/docs/technical-overview.html

Further, if you want to have your datastore consistent, you must make sure that no operations are ongoing while you sync your store to the remote, e.g. by setting the stores maintenance mode to offline.

Hi @Chris,

thank you for the all details provided, I had not considered them.

What do you recommend as the best method for offline backup?

I also make backups to a NAS.
I had thought about uploading the NAS backups to the data storage, but I thought by uploading the backup directories I could use deduplication.

Thanks.
