Nvidia GPU PCIe passthrough successful but driver fails to register device

I have added an older laptop to my cluster, and am trying to passthrough a 1050ti mobile to a ubuntu-server VM.

I have identified the following errors at boot retrieved using dmesg


I'm not familiar with the driver init process, but I assume the critical error is Failed to allocate NvKmsKapiDevice'

When I call nvidia-smi, it returns No devices were found, but lspci lists the card.

I managed to find this post, which links to this post, but the proposed solution did not work.
