I have never attempted anything like this. My goal is to install proxmox so I can run my OPNsense and Ubuntu as VMs on my Prolanti Firewall device.

The install appeared to go ok but when I rebooted, I could not connect to the web interface. I don't know if it is a hardware or software issue. I don't even know the right questions to ask. At this point the device is not connected to the internet. It is connect to my Mac via a patch cord and that is how I am trying to get to the gui.

Lots of threads about this, but here we go again:
Did you use the exact URL with httpS and the port number? Can you connect to the Proxmox host with SSH? What is the IP address and local subnet of the Mac?
Can you login to the Proxmox host console (with a physical keyboard and display)? Can you show a photo of the output of cat /etc/network/interfaces and ip a?

I did use the exact URL and port number. I have not attempted an SSH connection as, being honest, I am unfamiliar with that.
My Mac:
IP Address: 192.168.2.8
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Can you login to the Proxmox host console (with a physical keyboard and display)? Can you show a photo of the output of cat /etc/network/interfaces and ip a?
I can login with a keyboard, mouse and display. I have attached photos (hopefully you can read them) of the two commands.

I am aware there are multiple threads about this. I spend quite some time going through them and reading them but, in all honesty, most of it left me more confused. I do appreciate your assistance.

You Mac and Proxmox are in different subnets (192.168.2.8/24 and 192.168.1.100/24). You'll need to setup routing rules on both systems otherwise they will not know how to reach each other. You chose a gateway of 192.168.1.1 for Proxmox but I'm guessing there is not system with that address and therefore Proxmox cannot reach anything via 192.168.1.1.
Try installing Proxmox with 192.168.2.9/24 and use 192.168.2.8 (your Mac) as a gateway (how else is it going to reach the internet via the patch cable connected to your Mac).
Or connect both your Mac and Proxmox to a router device ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Router_(computing) ) as is a more common network setup.

I am just now getting to reinstalling PM. I wanted to run this by you before I reinstall. I want to give this the best chance to work.

Hostname: what should I use here?
IP Address: 192.168.2.9/24 (per your reply)
Gateway:192.168.2.8 (per your reply, my Mac's IP)
DNS: What should I use here? The DNS for my Mac is 192.168.2.1. Should I use that?

Sorry for being dense. I know nothing about networks.

Something like pve9.lan would work.

Since you appear to have a DNS at 192.168.2.1, I assume like your have a router at that address. It would be much simpler if you could connect the Proxmox host directly to the router and use 192.168.2.1 as gateway. Otherwise, you'll have to configure routing on your Mac, which will complicate everything to a point where I also don't know how or what to do.

Sure. Use whatever DNS server you want but the closer the better.

You'll have to learn if you want to run more than one (virtual) machine on your local network. Please connect the Proxmox host to your home router instead of your Mac.
