Hi,

quick question:

I am about to create my first PVE cluster. Up to now I have been running only a single host.

The documentation states that:

A node that is about to be added to the cluster cannot hold any guests. All existing configuration in /etc/pve is overwritten when joining a cluster,
What if I create the cluster on my existing node (which has many vms and lxcs) and then join the two new (empty) machines to the cluster? Would that preserve my vms and lxcs on the original node?

Thanks!

Yes, that works.
