Hi everyone, I have a 3 node cluster. I need to replace a node (hp server) with another model, then exclude the latter from the cluster. -I have read the procedure on the proxmox docs which seem quite clear. I was wondering if after installing the new server and joining the cluster it can have the same name as the old one, i.e. pv2.mydomain.local Before proceeding, I am convinced that it can be done because once the old node is deleted from the cluster, all the information of the old including ssh keys configurations etc. Can anyone give me confirmation as written before I can give the same hostname? Thanks

As usual when working on your infrastructure:
* make sure you have a working and tested backup
* make an additional copy of the contents of /etc/pve/

If you follow the reference documenation:
https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/chapter-pvecm.html#_remove_a_cluster_node

then the known_hosts should get updated accordingly.

Make sure that the node you remove does not have any guests on it - I don't see where reusing the hostname/IP would be a problem.
Sometimes after removing a cluster-node it's directory still remains in the cluster-filesystem - in that case you'd probably need to remove it before you can join a node with the same name.

I hope this helps!

Well, before removing the node from the cluster I will do a backup of etc and pve (that's why I never did!). After I will move the existing machines to other nodes and above all I imagine that I will have to remove the node to be deleted from any HA groups, I don't think the cluster does it automatically. Thanks for your directions Ivanonv.
