Hello everyone.

I am a newbie to Proxmox and I have a question I would like to ask. I have installed proxmox without the ISO, installing debian first and then proxmox because I need a specific partition scheme to be able to boot on my system (HPE microserver gen8).

Everything went fine, I partitioned the host disk with an ext4 partition and a swap partition (and another partition to /boot on the Sd card) leaving the rest unpartitioned to do it later.

The system has installed correctly and everything seems to be working.

My doubts came when I tried to create the LVM pool in the remaining disk space. The GUI did not allow me to do this, since it asked me for a completely empty disk, so I did it in command line, I created a partition with linux LVM type, and I followed the whole process of creating the volume, pool etc...until the partition was functional.

I read I had to register it manually in proxmox so I went to configure the storage.cfg file as the docs says, but to my surprise, the system has none.

I have created one and I have put the configuration of this partition as LVM-thin, only the config for this partition (work perfect), but there is no directory type storage config entry anywhere, in fact as I said there was not even the file, is this normal? where does the initial local directory type storage configuration resides? Thank you very much.

yes, this is normal for package install. You forgo most of the automation/wizard when you go that route.
The default settings for "local" storage are:
Code:
dir: local
        path /var/lib/vz
        content vztmpl,rootdir,snippets,iso,backup,images
        is_mountpoint no
        shared 0

whether this is suitable for your install is up to you. You can point it anywhere.

Good luck
