No remote access to VM

We have a VM running with our merchandise management system on VE7.4.3. But the VM is no longer remotely accessible. Not even from the console there is only a black screen. However, the VM can be started and stopped. The programme on the VM is also running and can be used by the clients. But we no longer have access to the VM. We urgently need to install updates there.

What error messages do you receive when trying to connect via ssh ?

The VNC window only shows a black screen even on boot so that you can’t see even the virtual bios post screen? Did you change anything on the VM, GPU/Display type for example? Do you see any errors in the syslog while viewing via VNC (console)?

While booting we can see the Windows-Logo and for some seconds the running dot-circle below the window, after some seconds only a black screen.
And no the settings for display is set to default / default.

And the VM is reachable over the network but not via RDP or any other remote management tool? Is it Windows Server or 10/11? When connecting via RDP do you also receive a black screen?

Hi,
RDP is not working. We get the message that Remote access is not configured or the client is not available. Before RDP was working all the time. Its windows server 2016.

If Windows switched it’s network location (for example from domain to public) RDP will be blocked. But that doesn‘t explain the black screen. Does it reply to pings? If not and your merchandise system is still accessible you can assume that the NLA changed it to public (I guess that the firewall rules on your server allow access to the merchandise system in all 3 scenarios - private/domain/public).

You could try to shutdown the VM and change the virtual GPU, from „Default“ to „VirtioGPU“ for example and check what happens. Is the machine type Q35? Can you check which version is selected (6.x, 7.x, etc.)?

changing the gpu to "virtioGPU" makes no difference exept the console screen is smaller.
Machine type is Default(i440-fx) and the VE Version is 7.4.3.
