Hello,

I installed Proxmox 1.4 on a Dell PowerEdge 410 and after boot, I seem to have no network driver support.

I have looked around and people suggest upgrading the kernel and drivers, but should these not be inc within Proxmox. From my understanding I need the NetXtremeII drivers.

Has anyone a fix for this yet?

Thanks,

Paul

one question,
which ISO image do you use? the initial one or the updated ISO?
see http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Downloads

also take a look in the logs, (lspci and lsmod).

Hello,

I only downloaded it yesterday, its:

proxmox-ve_1.4-4323.iso

I checked the web site again today and this is still the latest ISO.

From reading online, driver support was added in .29 kernel and by adding:

linux-image-2.6.29-bpo.2-686_2.6.29-5~bpo50+1_i386.deb
firmware-bnx2_0.17~bpo50+1_all.deb

This seems to be the case for all the new Xeon 5505 chip's from Dell inc: R410, R610 & R710 which use new boards and chips.

If you could help, that would be great.

Thanks,

Paul Hughes

Hello,

That seems to be the problem, its only back ported to version 2.6.29 and as you don't run this kernel I can't install these packages.

Paul

Thanks,

If you can update me with your progress when its done, I will be happy to test it.

I think its important as this will effect anyone buying new servers from Dell as all the new boards will need these drivers.

I have this exact same problem. I have two R410's waiting to go into production.

This guy had a fix:

http://www.hostatic.ro/

But I can't get past the 'make' statements. I'm a bit of a Debian noob, is 'make' not included in the Proxmox kernel?

Cheers,

Chris.

Hello Chris,

If you download the latest version 1.4 beta 2 it works perfectly and installs the network drivers without any issues. Also I have not had any trouble with the stability of the beta though I only use OpenVZ anyway.

Hi,

Unfortunately we're hit by this issue on a new Dell PowerEdge R410 server that we wanted to add to a 1.3 cluster, for production use.

Is it possible to get this driver included in Proxmox 1.3 - or do kernel versions make this impossible?

any hint to use this machine with the onboard bcm5716 ????

Do you have the drivers for it?

I use the 1.4 release but the bnx2 does not work ...
