Hi all, I've been having some trouble with my server lately.

I got a second hand server a while back and when I got it, I installed Proxmox without and issue. Fast forward a few months and I moved places, it seems that one of the hard drives wasn't being picked up anymore, Since I had nothing of real value, I just reinstalled proxmox having this time i've been hit with a load of issues.

I believe them stem from my RAID controller. Currently I have 2 SSD's in RAID-1 and 8 HDD in a raid 10. on fresh initialization, proxmox wont detect the virtual disks. On boot I see 2 Virtual disks handled by BIOS so they are being picked up by the BIOS.

I started doing research and found it could be my SATA settings? I have 4 choises: IDE, RAID (intel), RAID (something else) and AHCI. I assumed I would need RAID as I have a RAID controller but I tried AHCI one time it worked, however on boot I was having issues.

My question is, Does anyone here use a physical RAID controller and can advise if there is anything crucial i should be doing before installing proxmox? I'm a bit lost on what to do next as It ether installs and then wont find pve, or wont find the drives when starting the installation.

Given you had an issue after a physical move, have you tried reseating the RAID card itself? [If the move was violent enough to kill a drive, it'd be violent enough to displace other components. Reseating the RAM might be a good idea too.]

All the drives show online in the raid configuration utlity and I can see all the memory being picked up.

If I reset all the settings to default what are the steps I should do..?

Set the BIOS SATA setting to RAID (intel)
In the RAID controller configuration utility set up my VD's (such as RAID 1 on all drives)

Is there anything else I'm missing? how would you guys set it up?

Can you tell us more about this system? One moment it seems to be a physical RAID controller [a physically separate card) and in the next reply, it seems to be a software RAID controller (Onboard motherboard unit.)

The term reseating means to physically take the component out, and then put it back in, to reseat; this addresses any carbon buildup on the pins, and in the case of movement, ensures there is proper contact between the pins and the receiving socket.
