NFS shares issues

I am using NFS shares as a backup storage (content: VZDump backup file).
Everything has been working well until recently.

Error messages in Syslog:

Code:
unable to activate storage 'backup_15' - directory '/mnt/pve/backup_15' does not exist or is unreachable

NFS shares are mounted but ls -al /mnt/pve/backup_15 sometimes takes very long time to open.

I have tried to mount these shares on other machines, even in ubuntu (proxmox vm) with no issues at all.

Code:
root@pve-1:~# pveversion -v

It doesn't seem the kernel is a culprit, tried different kernels with the same result.

It looks like you ruled out kernel by trying older versions. If I were you, I would:
a) determine mount options used by PVE
b) mount the NAS directly/manually - find out if the issue persists
c) if it does, modify the options (ie v4 to v3) and continue to test manually until you find a working combination
d) throughout the testing keep an eye on network errors on the interface - if its not software, then its hardware.
