I am trying to add a nfs share to my server, and I am getting stuck on the export field, What is suppose to go in the export field, when I click on the expander icon, I get a blank box, does the nfs share allow password protected shares?
Is there a better way to do this?

My nfs share is on a freenas 8 box, any ideas on how best to do this?

am close, I deleted the share and created a new one, this time box showed the path of the network share and it worked. (relief). Now when I click on the share to view content, I get this error message:
mkdir /mnt/pve/Kidnas/images: Permission denied at /usr/share/perl5/PVE/Storage.pm line 1857 (500)
I get around this problem by creating the folders my self (images, templates, iso etc)

Now I get this error:
mkdir /mnt/pve/Kidnas: File exists at /usr/share/perl5/PVE/Storage.pm line 1857 (500)

Think its a permission issue with my freenas setup, but I am not sure how this works.

I am a windows developer trying to move more towards linux based products

Hi princeo,

I think your problem is on the FreeNAS box. Are you using ZFS on the FreeNAS? If so, you probably need to create a ZFS data set on top of your ZFS pool. For example, if you want two ZFS shares, let's say 'backup' and 'iso', shared over NFS, you do NOT want to manually create those two folders inside your ZFS pool. Instead, create two ZFS data sets, one called 'backup' and the other one 'iso' and share those two data sets over NFS individually. The data sets will automatically create your folders for you. For example, /mnt/vol01/backup if your ZFS pool is called vol01 and the data set would be backup.

I hope that makes sense? When I first started working with FreeNAS 8 I had similar problems to yours and mine were definitely because of the above issue.

Take a look at the FreeNAS online manual too. It's pretty good, albeit a bit confusing at times.

You realize that FreeNAS has awesome documentation? This exact subject is covered in that documentation.
