NFS connection with TrueNAS is not working

Hi ,

I'm trying to configure my TrueNAS in NFS with Proxmox for my backup.
I've followed all online videos/tutorials to do this, create a truenas user, set all the ACL on the directory in TrueNAS etc...but when I'm trying to connect it in Storage the Export is "Searching" and nothing is found.


I've tried showmount -e IP and after (stopwatched) 2 minutes and 10 seconds I have the result without errors.
If I try to manual add it in storage give me this message "create storage failed: storage 'backup-nas' is not online (500)"

Maybe is a timeout problem?

Proxmox version: 7.4-1
TrueNAS Core version: 13 .1

Hello,

Since there is a timeout, I would first check of the network connectivity between the TrueNAS and Proxmox VE if working correctly, tcpdump will help you to identify what exactly happen when you try to mount the NFS to Proxmox VE, and I would also check the firewall.

I don't think is a network connection problem, the TrueNAS is used for samba share also and is going at Gigabit full speed in transfer rate.
Only with NFS connection between Proxmox I have the issue

Yes, via CIFS/SMB I have no problem at all mounting it in Proxmox

If showmount does not work, then it could be:
NFS service not working properly on TrueNAS
NFS permissions are not set properly
Network packet loss (cable, firewall, mtu, etc)
Protocol issues (UDP vs TCP) due to some non-standard firewalling on either side
etc

CIFS is TCP only, try to force your connectivity to TCP from from PVE.

Until showmount works in reasonable time (few seconds) you will continue having issues. As @Moayad said tcpdump is an excellent troubleshooting tool if you tried everything else that is obvious.
Build a basic VM (ubuntu or centos) with default Kernel and settings, can it mount NFS off the truenas?
