Newbie question, looking to do my first install

I have a good Dell Desktop I want to put Proxmox on to start learning the system.
This desktop is my main windows 11 system.

is it possible to Install Proxmox on this machine and have it Virtualize my Windows system at the same time?
Or do i have to wipe the drive and start from scratch?

PVE will wipe the drive and you would have to reinstall Windows as a VM. An alternative would be to enable Hyper-V in Windows and run virtual machines that way.

You will need to wipe the disk. That can be done during PVE install.

Prior to doing that you can utilize one the many p2v converters to save your data externally, and then recover it to a Virtual Machine after PVE is installed. However, there is no guarantee that this will work flawlessly.
You can also do a simple backup/restore. Or perhaps do both of the procedures.
