Hi , I am a newbie regarding proxmox and zfs setups.
My setup will be a testing environment for VMs and establishing a development lab for Lotus Notes dbs and testing Domino servers. I will run some Domino Servers as well productive for an internal project, with 6 people on start and later maybe 20 persons working with it.
My setup will be so far:
ASRock Rack X570D4U-2L2T
2 x 32GB KSM32ED8/32ME
2 x 128GB ssd cheap ones from amazon for installing proxmox
1 x LSI HBA based on 3008 chipset.
4 x 4TB Segate Ironwolf
2 x Samsung 1TB Samsung 980 Pro Nvme
I read a lot in the last days regarding zfs setup and that its recommended to have ssds with high endurance.
Thats why I will return the Samsungs Nvme drives and think abut getting Segate Firecuda 530 Nvmes which have 1.3 PT write endurance.
I thought using nvme drives for L2arc , but maybe its a bad choice at all and get maybe more 2 x 32 GB sticks instead.
Shall I setup the 3 Hds as stripe with mirror or raidz1 ?
I still would like to make use of the NVMe. Whats the best recommendation for size for using L2arc in my scenario ?
Another question in my mind is for backing up my snapshots to another nas. Does the nas needs to have zfs ? If I would backup to a tape it won't have zfs.
thanks for your recommendations.
