So I am painfully new to VMs. I have installed Proxmox several times and for the life of me I can't access the webGUI. Not even once.

I have installed it on a laptop and whenever I try to access the IP address I get the connection timed out error, either from another laptop or my phone. I did note that, unlike the tutorials I've watched, whenever I re-install it I get no netmask option and instead of just an IP address, I get asked for an IP (CIDR) which is set to default at "/24". I am not sure if this is relevant but it is one of the few things I have noticed that were different. I tried to log into the server from my android phone using both Chrome and the Proxmox app, to no effect (no connection).

Am I missing something here? I really can't tell, and I've been through a lot of posts with possible solutions but none worked but, again, as a total newbie I don't even know what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wish you all the best.

Hi,

Can you ping your Proxmox VE IP from another device?

Please post your network configuration by doing cat /etc/network/interfaces and the output of ip a

Hi! Thank you for replying. I feel like I probably messed up something very very basic, here's a picture of what I got from both tests. I tried pinging IP:8006 but I get a "cannot resolve host IP:8006: Unknown host".

I attached a pic of the results from the tests you asked, I am sorry for its quality and holy damn, that screen is dirty. That's on my brother, though, its his notebook after all.

Thank you again for the support!

Hi,

The network interface enp2s0 is DOWN, are you sure that you plugged the ethernet cable into the laptop?

DEAR LORD, am I stupid. No, the ethernet cable was not connected and it didn't occur to me that there was obviously no way to set up a network without any connection. HAHAHAHA. Told you it was probably something very dumb on my part. Thank you! Hahahahahahah still can't believe myself on this one ahahahahahaahhaahahaha.
