I create a lot of VMs that are mostly the same configuration. Templates to the rescue!

I know this will be really elemental for some people, but in Proxmox you can create a VM, will all of the tweaks and settings you routinely use. For instance:
  • UEFI boot instead of BIOS
  • Memory amount
  • # of CPU cores and the type of of CPU
  • Hard disk (or not)
  • TPU (or not)
So instead of making these settings over and over again when creating a new VM, you can create a VM, not boot it, and convert it to a template. Then you can clone the template to a new VM. In my case I can set everything in the template that I continually set manually.

This is basic knowledge, but this allow you to set default settings for new VMs. Like type of CPUs (host).
