new VM can't boot from host cdrom

Hi,

I discovered a problem on at least three separate servers: I cannot access the physical cdrom in the hardware node from a VM. This applies to new VMs where I try to install a VM from a disc directly and it applies to data discs, that I want to insert into an existing VM.

The cdrom is visible, but cannot be accessed from the VM. The same disc is accessible from any other computer when inserted into the cdrom drive.



Any hints?

Can you access this from the Proxmox host?

As a workaround, rip the CD-ROM to an ISO and point the guest to it.

The server has only one cdrom, and this is accessible on /dev/sr0, while /dev/cdrom links to /dev/sr1. Is this a Bug?

I've now run into this as well. I saw the fact that there were cdrom, cdrom1, cdrom2 in /dev, so I tried mounting each until I found that cdrom2 was what I wanted. Is there a configuration setting in proxmox I need to set to Proxmox knows to use cdrom2 instead of cdrom?

Try to fix the symlink in /dev/cdrom to point to the correct device. Usually this is done by udev at startup - not sure why that fails for you.
