Hello newbie here looking for some advice.
So I'm planning on installing ProxMox on what is currently my TrueNas Core12 system (just installed and setup a couple of months ago). I'm planning on backing up my current TrueNas Config and formatting my boot SSD then installing the latest version of ProxMox. I was thinking of adding a 500GB NVMe drive if this would be better to install VM's on then the 120 GB SSD.
I currently have the two 4TB drives setup as a mirrored pool (pool1only using 3% of the space right now) and the two 3TB drives as mirrored pool as well (Pool2 I'm using less then 1% of space) in my NAS all is backed up to another USB drive as well as my main home computer so not worried to much if my config import doesn't work in new VM. Pool1 is for my Plex media storage and pool 2 is for backups and file storage.
I hope to pass through the Pool1 and 2 HDD's to a new TrueNas VM. I also want to install a Windows 11 VM and firewall VM (not sure which yet) to start with.
1: So what would be the best setup for my other hard drives should I keep using them on the TrueNas VM with both pools?
2: Will backing up my TrueNas config on current system work when I use the import feature to new TrueNas VM?
3: With my current hardware how many VM's could I install. (6 cores and 12 threads and 32 MB ram)
Hardware/software
Ver: TrueNAS-12.0-U6
Cpu: Intel Core i5 10500 3.1Ghz 12MB
MB: Asus Prime B460M-A
Mem: ADATA Premire DDR4 32GB (4X8GB)
Boot: Samsung 120 GB SSD Boot Drive
HD: 2 X 4TB Seagate IronWolf NAS (Mirror) Pool1 Plex media server
2 X 3TB WD WD30EFRX NAS (Mirror) Pool2 Windows Backups
PS: Corsair CX430M
Case: Corsair Carbide 100R silent series
UPS: APC BN1500M2-CA
NIC: Realtek RTL8111H onboard
My Goal with installing is to keep learning and keep my mind active in my retirement.
Cheers Tom
