So, a senior citizen here, and took a class on Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure technologies. I was introduced to Proxmox on another firewall forum. I bought a Dell Precision 3630MT specifically for this private cloud project and have installed a M2.NVME 250GB PCIe-SSD, 64GB RAM, i350-T4 NIC, and three 4TB 3.5 hard drives. I have installed Proxmox 7.3 successfully on the ZFS formatted M2.NVME, and have configured as well as accessed the webGUI just to look around.

What I am thinking of doing is add a VPN server, Portainer for Docker container for NTP/GPS, DNS, and private cloud storage, pfSense VM, and maybe Ubuntu Core to handle the VPN server. I am a little shy, maybe intimidated of CLI, since Apple spoiled me. I can so a few short CLI input but long command makes my brain protest, just like IPv6 does.

So, I am here for guidance and wondered whether there is an almost free subscription for home lab users. So far, the experience has been good and just waiting for the other 32GB RAM to arrived (had to return as one of the module was bad).

You can use PVE without any artificial limitations (except for missing support, more stable enterprise repository and email notifications for updates) without any subscription (so for free). If you want to support the development the cheapest subscription is the "community" subscription for 105€ per socket per year. With it you won't get support but access to the enterprise repo and you can use a avatar and signature in the community forums.
