I have had proxmox running for some time on a single host. Now I want to expand, and create a cluster and add another node - but it's easier said than done.

When I first created the node it all seemed to go as planned. However, after a while the new node started acting funny, didn't reply to ping and gave the GUI gave errors, so I removed the node, and formatted the machine again and tried again.
The machine joined the cluster, and it seemed fine. I waited a few hours, before creating a backup - and then it started to act funny again (the new node is just passive - no VM are on it, it's not part of the backup or anything). I got this error:
ERROR: Backup of VM 103 failed - unable to open file '/etc/pve/nodes/proxmox/qemu-server/103.conf.tmp.189773' - Permission denied
INFO: Failed at 2022-08-29 19:00:02
INFO: Backup job finished with errors

That's where I am now. I have tried to do some troubleshooting, but not sure where to go from here.

If I try to browse to the new node, I get a "Connection error 595: Connection refused" for most things.
If I try to connect by SSH to the new node, I sometimes am able to connect - often I'm not able. When I can connect, I can try to ping the old node. it takes a long time until I got about 3-4 replies, and then the connection is closed.

If I connect to the old host, and try to ping the new host, I replies just fine. My laptop pings both nodes fine.

Where do I go from here, I'm not good at troubleshooting proxmox.
