Using Proxmox VE for over a week and I love it. Been having that often reported problem with an onboard intel nic (random nic resets) and decided to buy a non-intel pci-nic. What's the best practice for getting that 'noticed' by Proxmox once the physical install is complete?

Thanks,
Nick

First you possibly need to attach a keyboard and display to your server because your server might not be available anymore as the NIC names change when adding a new PCIe device. Then you should check if your NICs chipset is supported by the 4.13 5.13 kernel. If not you might need to install the optional 4.15 5.15 kernel (which also might fix your problem with the onboard NIC).
