[SOLVED] Network won't come up after applying latest updates

Hi,

Yesterday I applied all the updates waiting using the webpage. As there was a kernel update included, the system suggested I should reboot, so I told the proxmox instance to restart. After waiting quite some time, the system was not accessible on the network, and looking at my router, the network port it's plugged into wasn't coming up. I logged in locally and when I ran "ip addr" all I saw was the link local address. As I've had issues in the past with the on-board card, I swapped my cable and amended the /etc/network/interfaces file to reference my extra NIC. I used "ifreload -a" to apply the new changes, and got greeted with a "access denied" despite running as root. Using ifupdown2 directly, I am also greeted with "access denied".

Tried a reboot with the new config in place, and after it cam back up there still wasn't any network, but I did see the two nics ens4p0 and ens5p0 when I did an "ip addr", but the 2 vmbr I have defined, the first having the LAN IP, aren't showing up, and I am still told "access denied" when trying to down/up things manually.

Any suggestions how to get the network toolset to work so I can bring my network online?

thanx

That didn't go very well. Running the dpkg-reconfigure tells me that ifupdown2 is not fully installed or broken. I assume I'll need to manually download, copy and install it? Had a quick look in the repo (http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve) but confused which is the right .dep to grab. I'm running PVE 7.4, but the highest ifupdown2 I can find is "+pve6"

Try to apt install ifupdown2 - Version on my PVE pve-manager/7.4-3/9002ab8a is ifupdown2 in Version 3.1.0-1+pmx4

Bye

As I have no network I couldn't use "apt" to install. That said, with your confirmation which ifupdown2 package should be installed, I downloaded that one from my laptop, sneaker netted it to my proxmox server and directly installed it. Changed my config back to my on-board (primary) NIC and bounced the server. Got it all running smoothly once more.

Thanx!
