Hi.

i created a kvm vm (win2003) and installed it like in your video tutorial.
Means i choosed virtio for network configuration.

After installation i put the Drivers to the server and win2003 installed the qumranet drivers for the network card.

Then i tested a bit and the results are:

100 MB file from kvm win2003 to fileserver (100mbit/s network) in 23 seconds

100 MB file from a linux box to the same fileserver (100mbit/s network) only 12 seconds.

is that the maximum performance of a kvm vm in Proxmox?

Seems like the network speed is only 4Mb per second. any suggestions?

for win2003 I suggest IDE for disk and e1000 for network. go for the latest e1000 drivers from intel (1000 MT).

virtio on windows for 2.6.24 is not always great - but we will release a 2.6.32 (KVM only Proxmox VE version) soon, so then its time to test virtio again.

Well so i suggest you update the howto's.
BUT:
if i choose the e1000 Networkcard for a w2k3 vm (kvm) i cannot use the network!

Internet is impossible, but on the commandliine i am able to ping other servers.

The fileshares are accessible.... Maybe the proxy server? without proxy, i can use the internet.

but with the rtl or virtio networkcard, internet (with proxy) AND fileshares are possible.

Some suggestions here?

its a wiki, so your are invited to add/correct it.

this is true if you use the win 2003 integrated intel drivers - they looks good in device managers but they are not working. but you should use the one I told you.

now i used the right driver for e1000 but the performance stays the same...
i need about 23 seconds for a 100 mb file to copy over network.

I cant say about the rest of the world, but the only slow downs Ive noticed with FreeBSD 8.0, is www/firefox35 stalls a lot more often :-P. Network performance over my ath wireless card has been perfect.
