Moving from XS hardware to proxmox, how to build around SAN while retaining snapshots?

Hello,

Am migrating some hardware over from a XS environment and would like to retain 2 key features - snapshots while reusing as much hardware as possible. Have some cloud servers and a SAN that serves volumes over iSCSI. From the docs it seems like iSCSI does not support snapshots but there is a workaround for ZFS over iSCSI. Is this the best solution if I would like to reuse the SAN? Can someone point me in the direction of resources that would catch me up on the subject? I am completely new to the ZFS over iSCSI concept.

Thank you!

Hi,
iSCSI does not support snapshots at all.
The ZFS over iSCSI creates the snapshot on the SAN side over the API/SSH.
This approach work also with NETAPP [1] or any SAN, which supports snapshot functionality and has a Custom Storage Plugin.

Does that mean I do not need an extra machine to sit in the middle of the SAN and the proxmox HVs? The plugin is installed directly on the proxmox HVs? Not too sure how this would work with live migration since there's no way to multipath the SAN backend if each HV is mapping it as a local file system.

I'm using Dell Equallogic. Am I right that this should be the plugin?
