[SOLVED] Moved PVE to new network, can not reach host GUI

At my home network I interact with host using the web gui or/and ssh using a local address 192.168.1.___
i took the pc to a new network, 192.168.21.___ and i am unable to connect to the host.
the current configuration starts two win10 guests with gpu passthrough automatically when the the host boots
how can i connect to the host in order to make changes at this point?

The problem is your computer is now on a new ip subnet 192.168.21.xxx, subnet mask is probably 255.255.255.0 and your gateway is most likely 192.168.21.1.

since your subnet mask is probably 255.255.255.0 usually by default in new router, you can only access Ip addresses in that range 192.168.21.1 - 192.168.21.255. To access ip on 192.168.1.xxx you would have to change the subnet on your computer to 255.255.0.0. that should let you access any ip in the last 2 octets, 192.168.xxx.xxx.

you should only need to make this change on the computer you are trying to access your PVE from but you may also need to make the change on your router as well.

you are able to access the guest due to them getting there ip from the dhcp on your network

I can not reach the web gui or ssh at the moment to change the network settings. and since the 2 guests are loading immediatly and taking control of the gpu, pve doesn't boot to a console. i'm too far from my home network to simply take it back. is there some way/option during pve startup to stop/pause in order to get a console?

You can make the same change from the guest os, just open cmd and find what ip it has, then open network settings and assign it manually. Change the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0 and enter the regular default gateway. Once the change is made you may loose the connection for a few seconds but should then be able to access the guest. From that guest you should then be able to access the proxmox web console.

You could also remove the PVE server + client computer from the router/switch. Then directly connect a ethernet cable between them and change your client computers NIC temporarily to a IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. That way you can access your servers IP, login using SSH and then edit the "/etc/network/interfaces", "/etc/hosts" and "/etc/resolv.conf" files to give your PVE a new static IP, DNS server and gateway in the new 192.168.21.0/24 subnet. And best you remove the autostart of that VM with PCI passthrough in case you screw something up.

Thank you for the help! It put me on a path to solving my problem
MY SOLUTION...
I was at a LAN party and I had a crossover cable with me. so I connected my pve box to a Win10 pc directly with the crossover cable. on the windows pc settings > Ethernet > Network # > IP Settings > edit > select manual > IPv4 on, then i set the IP address to 192.168.1.126 because my PVE is static IP 192.168.1.125. subnet 24, gateway 192.168.1.1 which also matched the PVE settings. DNS fields blank.
At that point I could connect to the PVE gui, I made changes to the network settings to match the new network, 192.168.21.125 and gateway 192.168.21.1 using the GUI (I believe using CLI making changes to the /etc/hosts and /etc/network/interfaces files would work as well). I can't remember If I restarted the entire PVE or if I restarted the services, either way I then connected back to the new network switch, and I was able to connect to PVE GUI at 192.168.21.125.
At that point I corrected the issue I was having with my Win10 guest VM and finally joined the LAN party starting with some Tribes of Midgard!
