Move storage to other

Hi,

Have this issue using 2 Proxmox servers with a qdevice setup
Both Proxmox servers are connected throught 2x multipath 8Gbps fiber channels to Truenas Iscsi target (shared LVM)

mpatha = HDD pool
mpathb = SDD pool

Both Proxmox servers are also direct connected to each other with a 10Gbps network card (HA cluster/migration, secure network)
(there is not yet a 10Gbps on the Truenas) High availability is working nicely, and migration works flawless and fast.

I would like to move the storage disk (.raw) for example CT 100 from HDD to SDD disk (Proxmox 100 > resources > Root disk > volume action > move storage)
but the move storage progress takes extreme long and a low speed 25 Mbps.

Any idea's what is causing this?

Might be the source or the destination. Bandwidth isn't everything.
Third option could be the process itself.
Have no experience with that process so I can only guess

Are both the HDD pool and the SSD pool provided by the same storage box?
In this case the slow speed could be explained by the way the data is moved:
It is first read from the storage to your PVE host using the network, and then written to the same storage using the same network again. So both require bandwidth and influence each other.

@mira, this seems logic to me.

Moving storage is done with rsync, right?
Is it possible to just copy the CT from HDD to SDD storage? without use of rsync and network?
and use the full potential of the 8Gbps fiber channel instead.

If the VM is running, then it uses NBD to move the disk. If it is offline, it depends on the storage.

If you want to manually move it on your storage box, make sure that the VM is not running at the time. Move it to the new directory so that it matches the structure of the new storage and then update the disk entry in the VM config under `/etc/pve/qemu-server/<VMID>.conf` to use the new storage.
