how can i monitor memory ballooning on a host/global basis and on a per-vm basis ?

With qm monitor YourVMID you can enter the monitor shell of a VM. With info balloon you can then see how much ballooning reduced the RAM. quit to exit the shell. But not sure how useful that is to you.

apparently, proxmox/kvm favours zfs arc over vm balloon memory.

is there some tuneable to adjust this ?

i see there is logging code in pvestatd for ballooning, but i'm unsure how to activate. apparently pvestadt needs to be set in debug mode!? does somebody know how to do?
