Hi all,

Does anyone succeed migration from vmdk to proxmox 4.3 using lvm-thin ?

I'm already googling, but some of solution only for 4.2 version that converting and copying the vmdk to qcow2 / raw on /var/lib/vz/images/VMID

How to importing the qcow2 / raw to lvm-thin ?

I can't re-create the VM that already have bunch of vm environment one by one.

TIA

That wiki does not provide instructions on how to do it.
The VMID dir wasn't there, and the VM references a raw storage I cannot find.
Also, adding a HDD gives no option to add an existing, and the wiki gives no instruction on how to do so.
The user is left to figure it out.
Problem is, even the vm config file in /etc/ references a cryptic lvm vol, with no obvious way of how it would work with the .qcow2 file.
Do we just add the directory?
No one knows. Not even the wiki.
Seems like even minuscule documentation would require those instructions.
AFAIK, and this is totally pathetic, the only way to get this over is to DD it over.
Which is totally unacceptable.
I was trying to figure out a way to change over a few TB's of VM's over to a Proxmox environment, and DD'ing them over (after already going through the cmd to convert them all to qemu manually) sounds nightmarish to say the least.

Please calm down, its not that hard. The forum and the wiki contains all what you need, hundred of user were able to do it.

If you need more help (besides this forum), you can go for a commercial support subscription.

Is it, or is it not true that you have to individually DD each VM to the new raw storage?

If so, that could take weeks with TB's of VM's.
That is ridiculous.

There is a "move" disk button for this and yes, if you copy data from one storage to another, you have to copy the data.

Depending on the speed of your disk systems this can take some time. I do not get the point why this is "ridiculous"? If you know a better way, please let us know.

Why can't you simply mount the qemu image?
That is what is ridiculous.
That you have to go through the process of moving it, converting it- then you have to DD it to the raw logical space..

You can of course use the vmdk file, as long as you use file storage for your virtual disks.

Proxmox VE storage model is the most flexible in the market, in fact there is no other hypervisor support more storage types.
