Hello
I am currently trying to migrate my old server which was a Debian server with no virtualisation running Samba and several drives using LVM called "Fileserver" to a Proxmox server.
My intention is to use my existing LVM logical volume, which consists of 3 harddisks, formatted to ext4 and filled with data and to migrate it to Proxmox - the logical volume uses about 90% of the storage. Backing up the data to delete this volume would require me to purchase some TBs of harddisks just for the one time backup process - so this is not really an option.
The LVM volume group "Fileserver" is setup in Proxmox and is manually mountable via shell. But is there any way that I can use this existing VG for different VMs I intend to install, like for instance openmediavault ?

thank you in advance

Hi, if you installed Proxmox VE on some other disk, and the disk with the PVE/VG/LVs are in the same server you should be able to add a VG as storage as usual. Go to Datacenter → Storage and use the "Add LVM" button. This storage then should be usable for new disk volumes of VMs or CTs.

My VG/LV is available both to the datacenter and the node and is set as "shared".
I think the problem is that I want to use the existing data on the LV of this VG for a newly installed VM (openmediavault). If I understand it correctly, adding disk-space to the VM via "Hardware-> Add -> Harddisk" only let me use the free, unallocated space by creating a new LV on the VG - same goes with directory.
I just want the whole LV on the VG avaiable to the VM, without creating a new LV or disk space via directory.

thanks a lot
