Hi guys.
After trying vmware, hyperv, centos, xenserver, virtualbox, virt-manager i finally settled for Proxmox VE, fantastic simple and working without amasingly expensive lic.terms for webhosters.
Thanks !
I have now 1 server with 1.8, raid + bbwc + External SAN (readynas 2100).
I have two problem that is little difficult to solve, and if anyone have had similar problem, welcome to share:
1. Migrate from 2008 R2, works with both clonezilla and windows bare metal backup.
But always ends in BSOD 0x0...7, this is ofcourse due to that they are installed in HP raid and Dell Perc controllers, and not found as IDE inside Proxmox.
I have read and search here (yes found the guide) and google several times but not found a simple solution.
mergeide.reg does not work in 2008R2 due to already built in, intelide.sys already there.
Repair from disk does not work due to the boot is already working, (the 100 MB C disk from 2008 is also migrated)
After BSOD it reboots into working 100 MB repair partition/boot partition.
Tried several dos-commands like BCDedit.exe, bootrepair.exe but still the 2008R2 tries to boot with HP or Dells raid-drivers.
So if i knew howto remove raiddrivers it would probably work.
I have also tested migrate from IDE installed 2008R2 and that worked, even tried 2003 32 bit, failed but did work to repair from CD.
Last resort is now to reinstall instead, but 2008R2 is production servers so not fun alternative.
2. I have 2 eth and used bondingteam with backup as tutorial shows, but changed to RoundRobin to get dubble speed from NIC's. Restart required.
Suddenly after reboot the VM does not respond to ping or cant use Internet, fault is intermittent, ping can work like 50 %, 20 pings work, 30 pings dont work and so on.
After changing back to backup nic(restart again) it works as expected.
Both ports (HP proliant) is connected to same switch (Linksys 48 port managed).
Im planning to extend with one extra switch soon, but this should work anyway ?
The Readynas is Debian also with RoundRobin and have no problem to same switch.
Anyway, very happy and i will probably solve these minor problems soon.
Best Regards
Marcus
