Here is an image to describe my concern easily:

So in the proxmox resources section the memory usage gauge is almost full. At that moment i was running a backup job, on a VM configured to use only 2GB of memory.
i know proxmox uses around 700MB + 2GB i assigned to the VM.. why it shows the memory is almost full, and what about HTOP ?
htop is showing me something closer of my idea of proxmox + 1 VM. Why the mismatch?

Thank you

Hi,

maybe try calling free -h. I'm not sure what kind of free memory htop shows :).

The GUI shows all memory including caches, e.g. ZFS ARC, which htop displays separately (the yellow bar).

I will run some simultaneous stress tests on the 2 little VMs i have in the screenshots below to make sure they do not shut down.
I assigned 2GB of Memory to each one.. so with 8GBs of ram total do i actually need more?
How much "slack" of either CPU/RAM is recommended to leave unused for the server to work stably leaving room for the cache and the rest?

Still confused with the GUI reports.. now looking at the hard disk space available.. on the main summary page it shows 4.54gb used of 700+gb but a VM is actually using 200gb as seen in the other screenshots.

Because you got different storages. Your root filesystem uses "local" andayour VMs will use "local-zfs" and both probably share the same pool but could habe different quotas, amonts of used data and so on. Each ZFS dataset is its own filesystem and virtual disks aren't even files as they are block devices called zvols.
