Manual backup?

Hi.
I use proxmox on a single server in a datacenter and I need to have a local backup that I can make also manually every week.

I can simply download and archive the proxmox backup of the virtual machines using sftp and if needed upload to a new server to restore the virtual machine?
Or there is a dedicated procedure, for example exporting an OVA file?
