Templates aren't completely VMs, so I'm not sure how to manage them as far as making sure they're always available. It looks like I can assign them to HA but that seems odd to me as it has options like "started" in there. If I do make it HA will that mean the template will come on on a different node should the node crash or the network becomes unavailable?

What's the best way to manage templates?

Hi,
I think our HA manager isn't currently aware of templates. That said, if you put requested state to 'stopped' you shouldn't face any issues, the HA manager should move the template around just like it would any other VM. For shared storage (and that is required for HA) all that has to be moved is the configuration file.

I mean the VM configuration files in '/etc/pve/nodes/<nodename>/qemu-server/'. There is a config file for each VM currently residing on that node. One step of the migration process is moving that file (not manually of course). There can be a lot more to the migration process, but with shared storages and a shut down VM (or a template in your case) there's not that much more.
