Hi, I'm trying to restore my backup files into a new VM with the correct IP address and VM ID.
I have tried learning how to restore by SSHing into the Proxmox node at 192.168.1.160,
then typing: man vzrestore.
This brings up the vzrestore Proxmox Documentation. However when I try to go the next page with the command ^f the following error occurs:
Waiting for data... (interrupt to abort).

Please help me read through the pages or how to restore to a new VM ID and IP address.

I researched the Proxmox forum and the wiki here: http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Backup_-_Restore_-_Live_Migration

So, I SSHed into Proxmox node 192.168.1.160 with my 2 VMs.

1.
I then typed: vzdump --restore vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz 164
I received the following errors:
Unknown option: restore
400 unable to parse option
vzdump {<vmid>} [OPTIONS]

2.
I then tried restore with the following command: vzrestore vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz 164
I received the following errors:
can't find file '/root/vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz

3.
I then tried restore with the following command: qmrestore vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz 164
I received the following errors:
can't find archive file 'vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz

4.
I then tried restore with the following command: qmrestore vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar 164
I received the following errors:
can't find archive file 'vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar

5.
I then tried restore with the following command: qmrestore --storage vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz 164
I received the following errors:
400 wrong number of arguments
qmrestore <archive> <vmid> [OPTIONS]

Please help me restore my VM which has the wrong ID and IP to my preferred ID and still trying to work out how to update the IP.

if you type:

> man vzrestore

you can scroll up and down with the page-up or page-down buttons on your keyboard, or just use the arrow-keys.

you did all commands wrong. and you did not understand the error messages.

read the vzrestore manual or better, ask an Linux admin for help.

if you want to learn basic Linux administration, download or buy this book and read it. - http://debian-handbook.info/

it will help you a lot.

Thanks for the reply.

I have checked wit Linux admin and tested the Proxmox Restore Document on my Linux Mint and the Document page 1/49 with Page Up, Page Down, up arrow and down arrow won't change the pages.
I then checked man ssh and this document goes up and down fine.

Please help me access the Restore Document so I can get Proxmox working on a number of issues.

ok, found a Google forum which helps make restore work.

Went to my Linux Terminal: SSH root@192.168.1.160.

Found the backups in the default Proxmox folder /backup/dump.

So this command then works for restore:
root@proxmox: /backup/dump# vzrestore vzdump-qemu-100-2012_11_13-15_01_15.tar.gz 164.

However I received and error:
Total bytes read: 21474846720 (21GiB, 6.9MiB/s)
container 164 does not exists

So, if I as able to read the Proxmox Restore Document (which isn't moving past page 1/49), I might be able to figure it out.

So, any help why this failed?
I created a new VM 164 to correct the VM ID of 100 and to try and fix this ongoing IP address issue which noone is able to fix?
