mails have no route

The mails sent from the backupjob via the root account have no route to host. The strange thing is that I can ping the mailhost.
That is to say: I have only problems when I connect proxmox to the networkconnection from my internetprovider. (ODIDO, NL)
If I use a wifi router connected to my phone it works.
What puzzles me is that I can ping the mailhost. DNS works ok.
traceroute ends in 21 lines with ********'s, not the host (lines 9-30).
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hello, @warner_k
With the information you wrote, it's hard to say anything definite, as your post lacks details.

A few general remarks:
1) The fact that traceroute gives one or other result might not determine if the mail service is available or not.
2) An ISP may block traffic to some mail services (particularly port 25) if the customer is a "home" one.
3) Another service (like port 587) might be allowed.

Anyway, you need to gather configs, logs and details and post them here (without revealing too much personal data) if you want us to be able to help.

I found out that the problem lies with my provider: a linux host cannot get a route to the outside world, a windows client can.
On windows a tracert can find my mailhost in 6 steps, on linux traceroute stops after 30 hops.
The problem is now: how to get ODIDO to repair or at least understand the problem.
