Mail stuck in queues?

We are seeing some heavy delays in recieving mail. We do get pounded pretty heavily but usage seems pretty good. Running in vmware, on a dual xeon 2.4 with 1gb of ram (assigned to the vm) and the vm runs on its own SAS drive. The server also runs a handful of websites that gets maybe 50-100 hits/day.

I thought maybe it was greylisting so turned that off, if I reboot mail that appears stuck will be delivered. The delays are anywhere from 15 minutes to 12 HOURS. Today I recieved messages that were hours old, whats strange is if I check the queue on proxmox server it will show mail delivery in a few seconds, *but* the time the message came in was hours after it was sent.

Any help appreciated, its been working great up until just when this started happening. We are getting pounded with invalid emails/spam (few thousand per day of spam) Im wondering if I have to increase the queues like I saw mentioned in some other posts, or if I turned on some feature. I have dcc/razor and everything on except ocr. I also turned off Unknown Sender/Reciver and greylisting. I do have enable verifiers (450) enabled.

Thanks

Hi,

First take a look on the hardware/vm settings. Disable all memory swapping on your vmware host - see deployment guide chapter 6.3 VMware.

Which version of Proxmox (2.1-2294), which kernel (2.6.22)? Do you installed VMware tools? And describe your hardware in detail.

Stop the email traffic (stop SMTP on your firewall) wait till your system is idle and execute the Proxmox performance tool, run it twice:

Code:
proxperf
now, count the number of SMTP connection from the last day:

Code:
grep ": connect from" /var/log/syslog.0 |wc -l
now you can reenable SMTP traffic and please post your results here. Also enable greylisting as this is very effective in case of reducing the load from your VM.

Hi
I rebuilt the queue by backing it up, stopping qmail, deleted /var/qmail/queue contents, make setup check on the src directory and restarted. But more than 300 messages that NEED to be delivered, are on the backup folder. I moved one, on the to do folder "0" to the todo of the new queue, and now it says unable to stat.
