Hello and good evening i am attempting to install Proxmox VE on a new gen motherboard MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI. I know that the drivers may not be currently be considered as hardware platform, that being i am hoping to either find some assistance to get proxmox ve installed. I am happy to help if i can on getting this system as a proxmox hardware platform. I believe that the main issue is the usb hub driver failing to load. I state this due to the install attempts with many bios / uefi settings changes the issue is tue sane all usb devices go off line. Usb drive with proxmox installer iso images, keyboard and mouse loose power. Usb 2.0, 3.0 and usb-c, 5G AND 10G.
Hello all.I am having the same issue with the MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WIFI motherboard.I tried several BIOS changes, including updating to latest BOIS, but nothing I tried seems to work.
Hello drgwilliams, I was able to resolve the issue. The motherboard is supported, so that wasn’t the problem. The real issue turned out to be Ventoy—using it to create the installer caused the boot failures. I recreated the USB using Rufus and wrote the Proxmox VE ISO directly, and that fixed the installation problem.
I also discovered that my GPU was causing conflicts during the install. Removing the GPU allowed the installation to complete normally, and I reinstalled it afterward without any issues.
If you’re still running into problems, I recommend reviewing your UEFI settings. Some default options can interfere with USB booting and OS installation, so double‑checking those can save a lot of time.
Hope this helps!
TOMAHAWK WIFI (General Best Practices)
These settings commonly affect Proxmox and other Linux installers:
Enable / Verify
UEFI Boot Mode (disable CSM/Legacy Boot)
Secure Boot → Disabled
SVM / AMD‑V (virtualization support)
IOMMU (for PCIe passthrough or GPU isolation)
Above 4G Decoding (important for modern GPUs)
Resizable BAR (optional; disable if GPU causes issues)
Disable (During Install)
Fast Boot
Any GPU‑related override if the installer hangs
Unnecessary onboard devices if troubleshooting USB boot issues
USB Boot Tips
Use a freshly written ISO (Rufus → DD mode or ISO mode depending on Proxmox guidance)
Plug the USB into a USB 2.0 port if the installer behaves inconsistently
