lvm-thin space problem

hi,

i have a proxmox VE machine with 3 physical disks:

1 disk of 100GB (PVE) and 2 disks of 4TB in raid 1 (Raid1_HDD_4Tb)
I created a VM (103 File Server) with Openmediavault to be used as storage for other VMs present on 2 other VEs on the network.

I have dedicated all 4TB to Openmediavault (10GB for the OS on SCSI0 and 4TB on SCSI1for storage).
I scheduled the backup by creating two folders (backup_nfs and templates_nfs) on my file server and everything works fine.
the space occupied by the backup in the backup_nfs folder is approximately 28%.

I have a problem though: proxmox say the VM machine is 100% occupied (about 15GB free space).

How is it possible? where is the used space?

I attach screenshot with some command on cli ( pvesm status, df, vgs, lvs) and VM configuration

thanks in advance for the support

Lorenzo

If you are using thin provisioned volumes, you need to enable Discard - otherwise the space on the thinly provisioned volumes does not get freed. You can edit the Hard Disk and check the box 'Discard' in order to enable it. Afterwards you need to run Discard manually once (fstrim -a), since it hasn't ran yet. Afterwards you also need to enable it permanently, this can be done by adding the discard option to your mount in /etc/fstab

thank you shanreich for your fast reply.

i have already checked the discard box on the HD without success.
i have to send the fstrim -a on Openmediavault console?

i need to restart the entire VE?

thank you

Lorenzo

problem solved, after send fstrim -a in the OMV console the space get freed.

thank you
Great, just make sure you mount the filesytem with discard option set, or run fstrim regularly (e.g. via cronjob), otherwise you will run into the same problems again
