Hello

I have installed a Centos 5.6 server on my LVM drive i.e. 15K RPM 412GB.

My question is does KVM + LVM work faster than OPENVZ ?, I am running Mysql+Apache+DirectAdmin Control Panel.
 
I assume if you would run 10 such VM´s on the same host and you would put high load on it I can imagine that you will get more out with OpenVZ. But this is not that simple to benchmark.

But feel free to do you own benchmarks, e.g. with the http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/
 
Also if I create something in LVM and god forbid if anything happen to the server can I attach that LVM storage again to have the files back? as I am planning in storing exchange server emails in LVM storage, that is why I am asking this question. Thanks.
 
you should do regularly backups. keep in mind that if you run ADS/MS Exchange on several boxes you cannot restore these images, you need a application aware backup tool to restore ADS with Exchange. E.g. if you get a total disaster you can restore the images to get the servers back and then restore the applications and ADS with the backup tool. If you just restore the images your ADS will probably never sync again.

So I recommend to make yourself educated regarding exchange backup/restore as this is not always just that simple - do intense testing. But this is very out of this topic "LVM Storage Question"
 
I completely understand what you are saying I just wanted to know once I add LVM storage in that VM, and let say if I delete that VM and try to restore that VM will LVM storage shows in the VM once restore is completed.
 
yes, vzdump can backup virtual disks on LVM storage, and of course qmrestore can restore it.
