Hello,

New to Proxmox. We're running tests with it on a couple old, decommisioned servers, to learn it, with hopes of replacing VMWare with it one day.

I've successfully set up a Synology diskstation for testing backups, and it's working fine, but I notice that there are many log files that I don't THINK should be there... Notice in the image below, that the last ACTUAL backup is 2/11/2026, but log files remain back to 2/7/2026...

Is there a setting somewhere that I can set to automatically remove old logs? If not a setting, what is recommended to remove these after "x" days? I would set this to 5 for now, since it's just a test setup.

Thank you.

On the PBS host you can use the proxmox-backup-manager node update $key $value to update the 'task-log-max-days' to a value of your choice.
Side note, there does seem to be a bug where the 'task-log-max-days' is not honored, see https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6267 for context regarding that issue.

Another simple method would simply be cronning a script that removes all files in the task directory older than X days.
