Live Migration KVM, web interface Backup ?

Thank you very much for your prompt response, look forward to release!
Another question, will be whether support ISCSI ?

yes, we will support ISCSI as soon as possible.

Hi I tested Proxmox ve and loved it! Especially the bare-metal install.

I'm currently investigating virtualization software for my company and find this very promising.
I do have a whole lot of questions :)

-Will there be a new beta version before 1.0 (with a functional backup for instance)?
-And will it be possible to easily upgrade the beta to the 1.0 version?
-Will it be possible to set a max number of cpu core or cycles to be used by a container?
- will there be a option for remote storage of the backups?
- And most important, is Proxmox ve ment to be used in a production environment, or is it more or less ment for home usage or non critical applications?

Thanks a lot!

We plan to release 1.0 as ASAP (we need to wait for openvz kernel 2.6.24 to become stable). We will also release updates to the beta if we have something new.

-And will it be possible to easily upgrade the beta to the 1.0 version?

Yes, thats the plan.

-Will it be possible to set a max number of cpu core or cycles to be used by a container?

Thats already possible:

for kvm: qm set VMID -smp NUM
for openvz: vzctl set VMID --cpus NUM --save

We will provide a web interface for that in 1.0.

- will there be a option for remote storage of the backups?

yes

- And most important, is Proxmox ve ment to be used in a production environment, or is it more or less ment for home usage or non critical applications?

productuion environment.

Thank you very much for the quick response.
If there's anything I can do to help testing etc. please let me know!

Although I have been able to backup an openvz with vzdump, I cannot seem to get it working for KVM's? Can somebody let me know what I am doing wrong.

V0.9 Beta comes with vzdump (backup tool). But currently there is no web interface.

not implemented yet, see http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Roadmap

but this has the highest priority here, expect it within the next month or two.

Ok thanks, sorry did not notice on the roadmap. So is there any way of backing up a KVM at the momement, even if it involves manual effort?

Say for instance by using the migration proccess (http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Migration_of_servers_to_Proxmox_VE)

Could you not backup the .qcow2 file, then to restore create a new KVM, then edit the config file to point to the restored .qcow2 file?
Just a thought...

for manual moving you need just the qcow2 file and you need to adapt the config file. I suggest you just create a new KVM and then you take a look on the structure:

qcow2 files are in: /var/lib/vz/images/VMID/
config files is in: /etc/qemu-server/ (like VMID.conf)
(see also man qemu-server for docu)
