I'm wondering if proxmox is able to migrate VMs between two different types of processors, so server1 is AMD server2 is INTEL... will a live migration be possible? Or is this something for the roadmap?

Proxmox has my attention, and I am willing to give it a go. I think it is a good idea to have just a webbrowser for administration of Proxmox.

Futhermore I wonder if an XenServer (the new free edition) VMs can be converted to a proxmox or say KVM vm.

see http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/FAQ#D...from_an_AMD_host_to_an_Intel_host_and_back.3F

As soon as our new storage model is available intense testing of live migration will take place. (see roadmap)

That is a real nice feature, which is not depended on proxmox but on KVM, I paste the info from the site here:
"
Does kvm support live migration from an AMD host to an Intel host and back?

Yes. There may be issues on 32-bit Intel hosts which don't support NX (or XD), but for 64-bit hosts back and forth migration should work well. Migration of 32-bit guests should work between 32-bit hosts and 64-bit hosts. If one of your hosts does not support NX, you may consider disabling NX when starting the guest on a NX-capable system. You can do it by passing "-cpu qemu64,-nx" parameter to the guest.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Okee, so Citrix Xenserver images are the same as normal Xen images.
Nice to know I let you know how the conversion and migration to proxmox goes. I will migrate my servers to proxmox, the idea of doing a live migration between the two different processors is a very good thing.

Thanks for the info.

I have installed PVE 1.2 yesterday on my AMD x2 machine and the installation is very easy. However I needed to upgrade my java installation to see the VNC console.

But I like what I see so far... no the big task to convert my xen vm's ;-)
