I am new to this proxmox, its a great product, I woud like to know where I get the most performance in running a VM. I am not sure the difference b/w those two I have been using XEN Server for about 2 years now so any help is much appreciate , my main concern is performance, and less ram usage as we have a heavy traffic web site therefore I would like to know which option is better.

Thanks for all your help.

Depends on your needs, both are great. OpenVZ can only run Linux, but with full speed (see http://wiki.openvz.org/Performance). KVM is probably easier to use for beginners and can run Linux, Windows, BSD, ...
