I just installed a winxp virtual machine in kvm to do some testing.

How come that in the winxp box I see a memory use of 65MB in taskmanager, and in the pve gui a memory use of 320MB? I allocated 512MB in pve

thanks!

thats normal, you will see most times similar values. as we install no tools inside the KVM guest there is no way to get the values from the windows taskmanager.

aren't you looking total server memory usage?

and where exactly are you seeing 65MB in taskmanager? (its too low for windows, even just installed :P)

you wrote that you see 65mb???

anyway, RAM usage is not that easy to calculate as it looks and currently we display this as good as possible. upcoming Kernels will make things easier in future.

No, it's only from that KVM. When I look via the console to the host, I see that KVM thread using about that too.
But is no big deal for now as stated above. I will just look at what will happen when I actually start to use memory in the vm

hihi, I was thingking about making a joke about that too; 65MB for windows is way to low. :-) It's in "performance" tab, "Memory usage" - "Total" (Not sure about the terms, I translated my dutch version, but it's in the lower left corner)

yes yes, 65MB. It's winxp "original" (without any service pack)
Is that so strange? I have always seen this in a fresh install.
Don't think the Dutch version has anything to do with it. ;-)

Edit:
Look now, it just raised to 71MB....It's coming alive!.... Damn windows :-)

Not too strange.. I was "half kiding" (half not..)

But install 2, 3 programs there and you will see... :P

Yep I have the same,

WinXp pro with 1 GB Ram In the proxmox-ve web management it shows the KVM machine using 946 MB RAM but windows itself is only using 450MB RAM.

this 946 MB RAM stays fixed no matter how much RAM I am using on the winxp machine. Pushed up to 1 GB ram usage and brought it down to 65 mb ram usage but this had no effect on the the 946 ram reported on ProxMox-ve.

Are you sure your XP uses just 65 MB, and exactly 0 MB for cache/buffers? Pretty unlikely situation.
