Hi all,

I have a serious issue with a VMWare virtual machine with PMG 3. I want to apply the service pack and before I intend to create a manually backup of the virtual machine. Now, I stop the server and manually copy all files to another storage. I start again the virtual machine, and now I receive Kernel panic.

Please advice me what to do. See attached picture for more details.

Thank you!

looks like an issue with the virtual disk.? what vmware version do you run?

which servicepack do you apply?

Is ESXi 5.1 DELL Edition (for poweredge 720)

I do not apply any update on PMG. I only shutdown, copy and restart. After appear this kernel panic.

Now, I try to restore from an older backup this VM, the system start, but after the first shutdown, appear the same error.

the PMG runs great on vmware, no known issue. do you run reliable storage on your ESXi host?

are 2 x SAS300GB on RAID 1 with full hardware controller (512MB cache with battery) on Dell Poweredge R720. The PMG virtual machine have a 3 GB hard disk, 2 CPU and 2048MB ram. This is the first error that I see on this server - are 12 diffrerent VM on host (Linux and Windows).

how can I recover the old configuration and log files from the old server? To reinstall PMG will take 15 minutes, but I need all rules, settings and logs from the old machine.

3 GB hard disk? use at least 8 GB. I suggest you re-install from latest ISO and restore from the last PMG backup.

I can't recover from latest hard disk? the previous backup is 45 days old and some rules and white lists was created all this time...
any recomanded backup/restore procedure to restore also logs? Also old statistics regading mails....

I do not know your latest hard disk backup via vmware. you tell it does not work so I assume you can´t do it.?

As long as you use scheduled backup (configured inside PMG), you got all rules, system settings and statistics in the backup. syslogs and quarantined items are not in the backup.

Just to mention, doing no backups for 45 days is not really the best idea if you have important data.

Tom, I can move all settings and logs using the backup procedure and migrate everything to the new server? I create a 16GB disk now...

proxbackup -s full-backup.tgz

and...another question: I need to install VMware tools or I let the installed versions? VMWare report that VMWare tools are already installed (3rd party/ independed)

vmware tools are already installed, no need to do anything. on the VMware wizard, select RHEL6 as guest type and install the ISO.
