Hello I successfully setup proxmox 2 rc1 on a new machine and I am getting this my log. I have read in forums elsewhere about this error and nobody seems to know for sure if it really effects performance. So I was hoping somebody here might know if there is a way to fix this or if it even needs fixing?kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance will be poor. This machine is a dell Poweredge r410 with 3 600G SAS 15K RPM drives. I have installed Debian Squeeze using the non-free netinstall disk as like to use linux software raid 5 with ext4 file system.here is an fdisk output please let me know if you need more infos about anything regarding this error

I really hate to bump this as my preformace seems ok, and i am not running a supported bare metal install of proxmox, and i do think proxmox only likes ext3 just curious i guess .....

Re: kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance wil

Ok I have ext4 so what of the error?

Re: kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance wil

No I did not install with your cd as I wanted software raid 5 check the post that has the exact error in it I'm on my phone right now

Re: kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance wil

Have you found anything on this? I have the same errors in my log. I Installed with the CD but migrated to a Raid 1 setup with ext4 afterwards.

Re: kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance wil

i have this in the log too and i don't know if it's an error or not.

Re: kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance wil

Eh, sorry to retreive a old topic, but I have the same error :
Aug 20 15:42:12 proxmox-bureau kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-2): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 9568272 by kvm; performance will be poor.

I don't see that before, I don't know the VM which provide the problem. Is it an important message ? How can I debug this ?

Thanks !

Re: kernel: EXT4-fs (dm-3): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 130479 by kvm; performance wil

Sorry to revive an old topic, but I'd like to a "me too".
EXT4-fs (md1): Unaligned AIO/DIO on inode 25690132 by kvm; performance will be poor.

I believe this is coming from a Win2k3 guest with IDE drivers. I plan to switch drives to VirtIO, but I don't expect that will affect alignment.

FWIW, here is the partition table of one of the disks. sda2 is a member of md1, which is a raid-1 array.
root@tacs-host:~# fdisk -l /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x39ed39ec

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 25 194560 fd Linux raid autodetect
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda2 25 60802 488189952 fd Linux raid autodetect

Or, as parted sees it:
Model: ATA MB0500EAMZD (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 500GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 1049kB 200MB 199MB primary boot, raid
2 200MB 500GB 500GB primary raid

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Hello shubes,

no, there is no context with any MS-Windows System...
look for examble https://access.redhat.com/site/solutions/62016
I get the same messages with proxmox 3.1-42 and a SME-Server VM (on a 3TB Western Digital HDD ext4 with LVM)

I am too getting these messages in syslog.

I wonder how serous they are, and what do they mean?

Anybody got more info on those?

I am using Ext4 (for now).
