Issues Moving VM's to ZFS raid1

Hi

I have been running PVE for a while now, with 1x Home Assistant VM, and 3 x windows VM's.

The boot disk was a single SSD, with the VM's running on it as well, then backing up to another sata drive.

The other day my instance of Home Assistance corrupted somehow, which made me think about my setup.

My plan was to install everything again, with 2 x Sata drives with ZFS raid 1 for boot and vm's, and 2 x sata drives zfs raid1 for backup.

I backed up my VM's, installed my 2 x sata drives first leaving my original backup drive in.

I installed PVE using ZFS Raid 1 using the 2 new drives.

Then mounted the backup drive.

Restored the VM's......

All looked good until i noticed one of the windows VM's had stopped. Also the Home assistant VM looked odd, when logging into the HA i had Hassio errors.....

After messing about for an hour or two with other backups etc i put the machine back the way it started with the ssd.

Everything works perfectly with all VM's fine and HA no errors.....

Can anyone suggest something? i suspect i am doing something daft. I wasnt sure which logs to post, but let me know and i will post them.

Thanks,

Rob

Are you sure your backups are fine and not that you backed up that already corrupted VM? Does restoring a backup to that single (LVM?) SSd work but no to the ZFS mirror?

I think I have worked this out, it was a couple of issues...

I set the system back to the orginal hw config with ssd. Restored the backup to a new vm, it worked perfectly.

Went back the hw setup with zfs raid 1, restored the same backup file, and i got errors in home assistant.

I restarted home assistant and the errors disappeared.

I left home assistant to run, and it shut down just after 3am. Just when i do backups.

when I typed cat /var/log/syslog | grep OOM it looked like i kept running out of memory ( i guess because of zfs using it)

so extra ram turning up today, and hopefully that will fix this.
