Officially, do the PBS need to reside on the same rack or local network where the proxmox ve is located?

over wan works most of time, but it's not the recommended way because of this problem when there is slowdown (eg network or disk)
only Remote Sync is recommended.

Have same problems regarding fs corruptions when backup via slow WAN to a remote PBS.
