Issue with Server license tranfert Freeze when Both Connected to Network

Hi everyone,

I recently installed a new server and attempted to transfer the license from the old one. Here's the process I followed:

  1. Accessed the old server
  2. Removed the license from the old server
  3. Ran apt update, apt upgrade, and restarted
  4. Accessed the new server
  5. Issued the license on the proxmox shop portal
  6. Added on new server the reissued license
  7. Run apt update, apt upgrade
  8. Restart the server...ensured everything was okay
However, I'm encountering a significant problem. When both servers are connected to the network simultaneously, they freeze and start causing various issues. Interestingly, if only one of the servers is connected to the network at a time, everything functions perfectly fine.

Could someone please advise on how I might troubleshoot and resolve this issue? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Stefano Tomasi

Do they literally freeze, as in you get no response from physical keyboard when looking at physically attached monitor? Or do you mean it in figurative way?
"various issues" is very broad term, can you try to define it a little narrower?

Based on guess only, you likely run into an IP conflict.

Thanks for the super quick response, I don't think it's an IP problem, I thought about that too but they are on 2 different static IP addresses, but the keyboard responds if I ping the DNS or the router or something else, nothing, problems with the VMs and the web interface doesn't load, it stops and freezes, from the keyboard if I write from the terminal it sometimes stops and writes all the text all at once after 40 seconds and things like that. I also checked /etc/network/interfaces everything seems in order...

Could it be related to the licensing issue? I changed the repo from enterprise to community I forgot to mention it before

If you have connectivity issues with http server
terminal it sometimes stops and writes all the text all at once after 40 seconds
and delay over ssh (presumably by "terminal" you meant ssh connection?)

Its more likely than not is a network issue. Stranger things have happened and it could be electromagnetic interference between two servers.
Its very unlikely to be caused by license, as that only affects your update capabilities.

Is this server a member of a cluster?

I'd double check everything again. Including network cables and switch configuration. Perhaps if you post output listed below someone will spot something:
ip a
cat /etc/network/interfaces
review output of:
dmesg
journalctl -n 500

good luck

I found misconfigured IP in this file: /etc/hosts
